SYWARE's Visual CE Database Software to Add Support for SMS Messaging on
Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition Devices

New SMS Messaging Capabilities to be Demonstrated at Pocket PC Summit 2003,
Las Vegas, October 20-23, 2003

Cambridge, MA (October 21, 2003)‹ SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of
intuitive, mobile database tools for business and personal productivity,
today announced that Visual CE®, the company's award-winning database and
forms development software, will add support for SMS messaging. This means
mobile professionals can use Pocket PC or Pocket PC Phone Edition devices to
send SMS messages directly from within a database application. For example,
doctors and nurses can let their hospitals know they are on the way with the
push of a button; truck drivers can tell clients if deliveries are running
early or late. No additional hardware is required for SMS messaging on
Pocket PC Phone Edition devices; Pocket PC devices can use a GPRS card,
readily available through multiple suppliers, or a Bluetooth or tethered
connection to a regular cell phone.

"Many mobile professionals already synchronize their handheld devices back

handheld database. The receiving party simply needs an SMS-capable device to
receive the message, such as a cell phone or an enhanced pager, like a

Creating Software Apps

Visual CE is a full-featured, relational database program. It provides an
intuitive, drag-and-drop interface for quickly designing flexible forms and
databases, no programming required. Database forms can be designed,
maintained, and run in full color either on the handheld device or the
desktop computer. Once the application is developed, records can be easily
synchronized between handheld and desktop, or beamed from one handheld
device to another. Users can also share data with popular ODBC-enabled
software like Microsoft SQL Server, Lotus Approach, Sybase, Oracle, Access,
and Visual Basic. Royalty-free distribution of Visual CE applications means
developers can quickly deploy their programs throughout the company at a
fraction of the price of any other database program on the market.

Sending an SMS message from within a Visual CE database record is easy. A
user can simply push a button and send any information already stored within
the database. Or they can type in a new text message and push a button.
Because Visual CE is already a database, the phone number of the receiving
party has already been stored. A set of predefined messages can also be
stored within the database. The user can simply go to a person¹s database
record, choose a message from the drop-down menu or type in a new message,
then hit SEND. Messages can include such additional information as time of
day, location of user, and device ID.

Pricing & Delivery

Visual CE runs on any Microsoft Windows Mobile-based device, including the
Pocket PC and Windows CE. The new SMS messaging capabilities will be
available in Visual CE 8.0, scheduled to ship November 2003.

Visual CE Lite Edition is priced at $79, quantity one. Visual CE Personal
Edition, with full synchronization capabilities, is priced at $129, quantity
one. Visual CE Professional Edition provides a more advanced feature set and
includes royalty-free distribution rights; it is available for $399. Visual
CE Enterprise Edition includes all the features of the Professional Edition
plus SYWARE's Report CE and mEnable software; it is priced at $599.
